Take the cable car or chair lift to save time if you are going on a day trip to the summit. At the cable car’s top station, you can see the view of Tokyo from the observation deck. At the summit, you can also view Mount Fuji from a distance, especially on a clear day.

Yakuoin

Mount Takao is also considered a sacred mountain and has been a place of mountain worship for more than a thousand years. One attractive temple that stands near the summit of Mount Takao is Yakuoin. Visitors from all over the world stop there to pray to Shinto-Buddhist mountain gods for good fortune. This is a must-see spot when you go on a trip to this sacred mountain.

Monkey Park

Monkey Park is another attraction you should check out along trail number 1. It has a walled glass enclosure that houses about 40 Japanese macaques. You can check out tours to witness the shows they offer throughout the day. The park also has a wildflower garden where you can see 500 different types of plants. Keio Takaosan Onsen Gokurakuyu

This is a hot spring bathhouse located behind the railway station at the base of the mountain. It has a variety of segregated baths where you can relax for a few minutes or hours. It’s a good way to cap off the trip after you walk for hours.

Takao 599 Museum

You can find this museum also at the base of the mountain behind the railway station. It is free admission and is free to visit by locals and tourists. The Takaosanguchi station features a beautiful architecture of timber canopy and wood-paneled passageways. Many tours stop by this area for a good few minutes.

The Beer Mount

The Beer Mount is a beer garden in Mount Takao. It has all-you-can-eat food options, beer, and other drinks as a summertime treat for those who hike the mountain. It’s a good spot for good food.

How to get to Mount Takao

There are trips from underground Keio Shinjuku station every 20 minutes to Takaosanguchi Station – the terminal station located at the base of Mount Takao.
